Longwood Gardens

Not exactly my cup of tea but is was a nice day spent with friends. No doubt it is a beautiful place but I’d rather be out in nature. The pipe organ is the largest in the world with 10,020 pipes, very impressive to see and hear!

Hockey

Since my last post we went to the NYC PDN Expo at the Javits center. We attended four workshops including one presented by Joe McNally and another by Scott Kelby which were both awesome. When I go to NYC I always like to photograph reflections.

Since the seminars we (my wife and our friend Brent) photographed pets at Pet Supple Plus in Easton Pa. The pet store supplied a nice Halloween scene, a printer and all the printing paper. All money collected went to the Easton SPCA which is a no kill shelter. We sold 67 4×6 pictures, at Christmas we do about 3 times that much. I’ll post some samples in my next post.

After the pet shoot I photographed a soccer game for a friend of mine. Tried some tips from Scott Kelby but it’s not easy .

Wedding

It’s been a slow Summer for me concerning nature photography, between the heat of the Summer and an unusually busy schedule I just haven’t been out in the Kayak. I generally don’t shoot people and especially weddings but a family member asked me to shoot a few pre-wedding pictures. At least I was out using my camera. They had a photographer for the wedding and of-course I stayed out of his way but I did get a few shots.

Photoshop World 2013 Vegas

I attended the Photoshop World convention in Vegas and it was over the top. I spent the day with Joe McNally at a pre-conference workshop where we spent the day at the Circ de Soleil training camp. That was really cool! The conference featured the best of the best photographers and Photoshop experts serving as instructors, it was a lot to take in. And of course there was fun and parties. A big deal for me I got to see Jay Maisel again. Scott Kelby was there with his band and they were fantastic. Scott played the guitar, keyboard, and drums. His wife sang, super voice.

After leaving Vegas I flew to Phoenix and drove north to see my good friend Don Reitz. Super visit, Don it was sure good to see you!

North-West Family

I generally don’t post a lot of family stuff but it was an exceptional trip and I thought I’d share some of it. We met up my cousin and his wife, from Florida, in Portland Oregon after he had run a 1/2 marathon in California. He ran another marathon in Seattle! We visited two more cousins whom we haven’t seen for half a lifetime, Mike in Eugene and Steve in Vancouver. Both really great guys and I hope we will see each other again soon. Mike is a retired commercial photographer and Steve is a professor of statistics. The trip took us through some very beautiful country.

B&W photographs

Lately I’ve been posting images of swans and flowers because that’s what has been around for me to shoot. Some of them I converted to B&W and a friend mentioned that he liked them. I do too, I started out with B&W many years ago and there is still something about them that I love. My B&W conversions are fairly dramatic, dark, contrasty, and grainy. That’s the nice thing, I can give them any look I want.

More Swans

Swans are sure big, graceful, and beautiful birds and I don’t get tired of watching them. The one set of babies (cygnets) are getting big. Both Mom (called a Pen) and Dad (called a Cob) work together to protect their young. The younger cygnets posted here are about a week and a half old.

Flowers, Geese, and a Building

More flowers, easy right, maybe one day I’ll get a really good one. They sure don’t last long, seems like one day they are here and the next they’re gone. The Bergen Machine building in Hackettstown, NJ is going to be torn down, my Grandfather worked there many years ago as a tool and die maker.

Night Photography

I have been thinking about night photography since I watched a presentation by Kelby Training on the subject. Tonight I gave it a try and I worked out pretty well. I quit when my fingers got so cold I couldn’t feel the camera buttons only to find a pair of gloves in my car after I packed everything up. Next time I’ll stay later because the light  (or lack of it)  and color kept improving as I left. Click on the image to enlarge it.

Getting it right in camera – I try

Since I shoot in raw my images always need some tweaking, sometimes a lot more. This is a shot from Ocean City “Walking the Dog” that I liked a lot but the composition was really bad, the man was almost out of the frame. I found another image that had a nice clean right side and added it to the image in Photoshop. I think the resulting image is much better.

IMAG0205 img158

Photography has always been important to me. I had a dark room when I was about 12 and I’ll never forget the magic of seeing an image appear on the paper when I put in in the developing fluid. (That’s a picture of me with the camera above, I can’t remember if it was my first camera but it was one of my first.) The dog is Bounce, our first family dog. He was really a great dog and always with us kids. He lived to be 21 years old and died when I was in college. Looking at his picture now brings back a lot of memories.

I generally have my camera at family events like holidays and birthdays and have documented my family quite well. The only regret I have is I didn’t take enough pictures. The picture of my Mon was taken with my cell phone in October 2011 on her birthday, I had forgot to pick up my camera before I went to her house. How could I have known that this was her last birthday, she died 11 months later from complications of surgery.

Besides taking pictures I scan old pictures and old negatives and so I have pictures of Mom from the time she was a little girl. I made a photo book “Memories of Mom” a 12×12 book with over 200 pictures and had it printed at Blurb. Now the memories can be shared with family and friends.  I think they will be even more important for Mom’s grand children and great grand children.

Many times over the years I have people ask me for pictures of their pet that they knew I had taken because they lost their pet to old age. It’s a good feeling to be able to give it to them.

I take pictures because I have to take pictures, not exactly sure why but I do. Of course there is always the challenge of getting that great shot that can go on the wall but I think there is more to it than that. Being able to share something is a big part of it for sure!

My main photography interest has been nature and wildlife and because of the camera I have gotten out and experienced things that I would not have seen. And, when I come home I have something to share.

Pets with Santa to benifit the SPCA in Easton Pa

Brent Rymon and I did another “Pet’s with Santa” shoot at the Pet Supply Plus in Easton Pa. to benefit the “The Center for Animal Health and Welfare” formally called  the Easton SPCA. We had a fantastic turn out with people waiting in line the entire day. We did our best to move quickly to fit everyone in and still get some quality shots, overall I think everyone was happy with their photos. There were a lot of beautiful dogs and cats, we even photographed a snake and a family brought their baby for a picture. Some of the owners got in the shots which I think made them extra special. By days end we took in over $1200, that a lot of pictures at $5.00 a print. There were a lot of people helping to make this possible! Special thanks to “Pet Supply Plus” for providing us space, a printer and printing paper.

Ocean City, NJ 2012

We visited friends that live in Ocean city, their home was not significantly damaged. This probably accounts for the fact that their home is 11 feet above sea level which he said is like living on a mountain as far as Ocean City goes. Although Ocean City was not hit as hard as some other coastal areas the damage was significant. There was massive damage to the beaches and many of the homes were damaged. Streets had as much as three feet of sand in them but the cleanup was impressive. For many of the homes the damage was not immediately visible unless you noticed the piles insulation and other water damaged items piled up in front of them. Some home had significant wind damage. I heard that many families are living in shelters.

I’m never sure what I’ll photograph when I go out until I see it and then only about one in ten I’ll like, sometimes less than that. I’m presenting a sample. I seem to be taking more pictures of people and having fun with it. I still gravitate to nature though and on this trip I got caught up photographing gulls in flight, just because it’s fun. That is why I’m a photographer, because it’s fun and I like to share my images.

Seaside Heights NJ

My Mom used to enjoy going to Seaside with her Grandmother so on my birthday in September I went down to see her old stomping grounds. When she was older she used to love going to the “Chatterbox” which is no longer there but the building is and I got to see it. I’m glad I got to see it before Sandy decimated it. Our thoughts are with those who live there.

Clinton, NJ

I met a friend for lunch at the Town Restaurant “Nicks” in Clinton and had a delicious lunch. Food is always great at Nicks! We took a quick walk on Main Street which was a buzz of socialization, the kids must have gotten out of school early. We also took a quick ride around Spruce Run Reservoir, so many nice places around this part of NJ. I only had one lens with me, a 16-35mm f2.8.

PhotoPlus Expo in NYC

We spent Friday and Saturday at the PhotoExpo in NYC. We attended two seminars, one with James Balog an environmentalist who has been monitoring, recording, and photographing our receding glaciers. We got to see his documentary film “Chasing Ice” which will be released in theaters soon. It is a real eye opener and I would recommend you see it when it is out.  We also attended a seminar by Jeniffer Wu a renowned nature photographer. Her seminar was both informative and inspirational. Check out some of her work on the web is beautiful!

As a member of Kelby Training and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) I have watched so many tutorials and seminars that I feel like I know these guys. They sure taught me a lot about Photoshop and photography! Well at the expo I got to meet three of them: Matt Kloskowskia a Photoshop and Lightroom trainer. We are both martial artists and that made meeting him even more special. “RC” Rafael Conception was just as nice as I thought he would be. I have learned a lot about HDR photography from him, he is a master of the craft! I have been wanting to meet Jay Maisel for a long time and I got to meet him today. Jay is one of the top “Street Photographers” in the world. His studio is in NYC and he is out photographing every day. He is really a wonderful person and has the warmest smile you’ll ever see, I think that is why he can go up to strangers and photograph them without getting clobbered.  He is a true master and I hope to see him again someday. Jay studied painting at Yale. Google him and take a look at look at his photographs.

Due to family matters I was not able to be out and about to do any photography this Summer. Now I’m at it again. I just got a new camera and that always adds an element of excitement for me. During the past week we were out in the kayak, went to the Jersey shore, and to the banjo and fiddle contest in Oxford NJ. I included some HDR and B&W work.

Nature from my Kayak

Finally made it out in the kayak once again. Beautiful day and the wildlife was plentiful. The highlight for me was seeing a baby Green Heron, I also saw a raptor and photographed him but I haven’t finished processing my files yet. For now here are a few.

The raptor we saw was a Peregrine Falcon. I pointed my camera to the sky without adjusting exposure compensation so the image was quite dark. Nice to see him anyway.

Swan 2012

This time of year is a busy time for raising young. My brother found this swan nest and of course I had to photograph it. I’m sure I could have positioned myself better but I did not want to disturb the swans. My wife was in a riding clinic so I’m throwing a picture of her and her horse in.

We went to OC, NJ to visit friends and had a great time, good company and good food! We visited a couple of estuaries, always thinking we would get a winning photo. 1st Kayak 2012

We took the kayak out today, the 1st this year. It was nice to get out and check around, nice weather but really windy.  Last year this time the rivers were so high from all the rain we couldn’t get on them. Although it was hot the river still looked like it was winter, the blossoms and vegetation aren’t there yet. We saw ducks, hawks, geese, frogs and turtles but I forgot how difficult it is to shoot from a kayak. The wind added to the difficulty. Anyway, I didn’t get very many shots and none that were really good but I will post three. The frogs were in a mating frenzy and the geese were sitting on eggs. Hopefully I’ll improve as the season goes on.

ends came up to help Joanie and I think everyone had fun.

New Mexico

I went to NM to see my friend Ken. After college I lost track of him and haven’t seen him for 35 years, just by luck I found him on people search. When I called him it was like I talked to him yesterday. Sure was good to see him. He is a disabled veteran from Vietnam. While I was there I also saw one of my professors and his wife, good to see them also. It wasn’t a photo trip but I took some pictures. I really like the NM sun! I lived in NM for about 7 years while in school, if my family didn’t live so far away I’d still live there.

Another composit image

I’m having fun with making composites. I watched a tutorial by a guy that did sports portraits, he would do the portrait in the studio and then shoot whatever he needed like a hockey field etc and make an image from them. Since I have been taking pictures of my neighbors daughter playing basketball I have been practicing with her. No studio images, just taking her out on a photo and placing her in another and adding some atmosphere effects. Click on the image to enlarge.

Composite Image

I have been experimenting with composite images, taking two or three images and making a composite from them. It’s really interesting what one can do with photography and Photoshop, I figure photography isn’t reality anyway but a representation of reality so I just have fun with it. In this picture I took a photograph of my friends daughter while she was playing basketball and a picture of the court and made the composite. After I made the composite I painted in light streaks as though there was a light coming from the top left and shining on the basket ball player. Click on image to enlarge.

While diving across the bridge I held up my camera and shot 2 images of the Delaware Water Gap. I also went by the eagle nest to check on the eagles (first time this year) and sure enough they were sitting there. I think they are rebuilding the nest, I don’t think laid eggs yet but not sure.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

This is our new kitty. We found her living in our wood pile when she was about three months old, she is now about eight months old. She is a real sweet heart and follows me wherever I go in the house. She has a real good home and we are lucky to have her. Not all little kitty’s are so lucky so support your local animal shelter and give others a chance for a good home.

Santa Pics for Shelter

Brent and I volunteered to take pictures of Pets with Santa at the Pet Supply Plus in Easton. We were busy and took in $615.00 for pictures at $5.00 a pop and about 175.00 in the donation jar. PSP provides the space, the decorations, printer, paper and ink so 100% of the money taken in goes directly to the Easton SPCA shelter. There were volunteers to dress up in the Santa outfit, volunteers to review the pics with the customers and then print them. A lot of volunteers and time but the payoff was well worth it!

The very first pet I photographed I had my camera set on Raw and their printer could not read it, I brought the images home and emailed them to the pets owner. The dog was very nervous and not very cooperative to being photographed, when the owner learned that the printer could not read the images she was really disappointed but we made it right and she is now happy.  In between pets the cards are erased because the printer has limited capacity, that is how I happen to have this image. I generally have no images to post.

I recieed a nice note from one of the clients at the pet with Santa shoot and want to pass it along:

Hi Marci,

Just wanted to pass along a letter that I read while doing the December Thank you notes.

Dear Volunteers:

Last Saturday (Dec 10th) when I took my dog to be photographed with Santa at PSP, the volunteers from your Center were so kind and good-natured that I felt compelled to send you this check ($50) in the hope that my donation will go toward helping the animals in your care.  Thank you for your good work.  I wish every animal born could be loved and cherished, but when that is not possible, I’m glad you’re there to give them food and shelter.  And love, too, judging from the people I met last Saturday.

Just thought that was very kind of her to do that and please pass on those words to anyone else who helped out if you’d like.

I just purchased a new light box and was trying to get my camera settings right. This is not my usual photography so it will take a while until I’m in my comfort zone with it. It seems like I haven’t been doing much wildlife photography lately but I have been out making pictures. I enjoy photographing horses, these are of my wife on her rescued horse. He sure ended up in a good home!

I rarely do portraits unless they are out in the environment but my camera club had a model night  so I took a couple snap shots. The young girl is a family member that just wanted a picture.

The rest are buildings around home and some from my old airport. I really miss hanging out at the airport, a lot of really good people there!

Airport and Fall Colors

I visited the airport, N-85 (Alexandria Airport) in Pittstown N.J. I kept my airplane there and learned to fly there. It’s really a beautiful airport and has received substantial renovations since I sold my plane. It was really good seeing the owners and I got to see Shannon my flight instructor, she was sure fun fly with! When I was there visiting there were were sky divers, I was told they have a very active sky diving school. I took a picture but I didn’t have a long lens with me and I was on the opposite side of the field. Although I don’t fly much any more learning to fly was one of the most exciting things I ever did. Having a good airport and and an excellent instructor sure helped boost the experience.

I have been playing with HDR photography, not sure what to think about it but I’m having fun with it. I’m posting some of my Fall color HDR’s.

Rodeo and Fiddle

Last weekend we went to a banjo and fiddle contest in Oxford NJ and it was a lot of fun. There were some good fiddle players there but I think the star was a little 6 year girl. I’m going to try and find her mom (she is also played the fiddle) so I can give her a picture.

I came across a little festival in Stillwater, NJ and they had a really little firetruck so I photographed it. Seems like I’m doing a lot of HDR stuff these days.

Finally, this past weekend there was a rodeo at the Shawnee Ski area in the Pocono’s so I’ll post a few of those.  Everything will be posted in one gallery so I’m not sure in what order they will be. Click on an image to enlarge.

Geese – Action Photography

I love to shoot action whatever it is. Much of my wildlife action photography is shot from a kayak which kicks up the difficulty level a good notch and tests the rotation ability of my back. I was just looking through my library of geese and came across three images that I think illustrate good technique. Hope you enjoy them.

Kayak

We finally got out in the kayak yesterday but could not get to our favorite place on the Delaware because of flood damage to the roads. I had a chance at a few good shots and completely missed them. I did get a nice photograph of a little turtle with a Ladybug on it’s back. It was late in the day and the reflections were beautiful so I shot some of the foliage. O the way home I saw some ducks on a pond, sitting right in the middle of beautiful light.

Flood Water

I went out today and made a few photographs of some of the flood water around the neighborhood. I shot a series of exposures and processed them in HDR, some fairly straight and some pretty funky. I guess you either like them of hate them, I’m just having fun. I also stopped by my friends lumber company and photographed his scale which was made in 1929. I like old stuff, makes me feel young.

Convert to B&W

I haven’t done much with the camera lately but I’m always doing something with photography like reading, working with Photoshop or watching tutorials. I have been experimenting with HDR and I’m starting to like what I can do with it. I have also been experimenting with converting my images to B&W trying to get a look I like. When I started in the darkroom at 12 years old ( about that age) my film of choice was Kodak Tri-x generally push processed. I still like that look. Since I haven’t published anything on the blog for a while I’ll put up a few of these images.

Almost forgot, we have a new family member, a little kitty named Canon. We found her hiding in our wood pile. She is tiny but it didn’t take her long to take charge. She is really pretty and loves to play, wherever we are she isn’t far away.

clinton NJ

We had lunch at the Town Restaurant and as usual Nick gave us to much to eat but it was delicious. Really good food and it’s always good to see Nick. After lunch we walked over to bridge and took a few pictures. I hear the Old Mill is one of the most photographed locations in NJ. We met a fun young guy charming his girls and took a couple of shots, he asked if they were going to be on the internet so I told him I’d put them on my blog.  So, here they are, hope you enjoy them.

Farms-The Old Days

This picture reminds me of the old days growing up in Warren County. This used to be a typical sight, one family farm after another with cows out in the pasture. One by one they disappeared with only a very few remaining. Now days cattle are raised in stock pens, crowed, given hormones and antibiotics and live a pretty dismal life. Riding around Warren County now I see mainly deserted farms with barns falling down or replaced with developments.

Sussex Co. Fair

Seems like some of my recent posts are getting away from nature and wildlife but at least I did get some shots of animals at the fair. The two deer I photographed a couple days ago, nothing to do with the fair. Let me know if you like any of them.

Kaitlan, if you want a copy of your photo email me and I’ll send you a full resolution file.

Warren Co. Farmers Fair 2011

We walked around, met people, ate, and took pictures of course. We had photographer passes to the balloon area (for pilots and crew). I’m an airplane pilot but she wouldn’t let me in for that but she would leave me in because of my big camera. I promised to give them copies, I figure it was a good trade!

I took a picture of a saddle and and did a little creative stuff in Photoshop. I also shot a few interesting people we met on out walk.

The old tractor pull was fun and I did some over the top HDR stuff to some of the images. I guess you either like them of hate them!

Wildlife

Finally got out in the kayak, I saw a lot of wildlife and they were cooperative. My photography from the kayak needs some work which means getting out more often and practicing. It was just great being out there watching nature! Sure beats being in an office.

Photoshop

I haven’t been doing a lot of nature photography lately. I went up to the river on the 26th but got rained out, I have been doing a lot of reading about post processing and trying new things in Photoshop which is all part of photography today in the digital world. Trying new things in B&W I shot a picture of my car wheel and painted it in Photoshop, I also did a HDR of the river. I have been doing quite a bit in HDR lately and starting to like some of it. Tomorrow I’m going to do some nature photography, at least that is my plan.

Pow Wow

July 9th and 10th there was a huge Pow Wow at the Sussex Co. fair grounds. The energy the dancers put out was amazing! The costumes were amazing! We only had a few hours there but I would have liked to go both days. My camera was on the fritz so I took my backup camera and only one lens, a 24-105, I should have had the 70-200 2.8.

B&W

I started developing film and making B&W prints when I was 11 or12. I was amazed when I saw my first image appear in the developing tray and have favored B&W prints since. For some reason I got away from B&W and have been doing primarily color but I still like the B&W. Producing a good B&W print is not easy but that is my goal and I’m working on it.

We went to Ocean City,NJ to visit a friend and  I converted some of the shots to B&W. Let me know what you think. Thanks

Alaska

Joanie and I just returned from a Lindbald cruise aboard the National Geographic Sea Lion. We traveled the the inside passage of SE Alaska between Sitka and Juno. The trip exceeded our expectations in all respects. The boat and staff were great and so was the food! We had better weather than expected. We had National Geographic photographers and Naturalists aboard that gave interesting presentations each day plus they were  available anytime to chat with and ask questions. The passengers were also great and we made a lot of new friends.

I’m going to upload some pictures as a gallery. Later I will upload some individual photographs and write some info about each.

Kayak

I finally got out in the kayak. I didn’t get to the Delaware River because I was to tired from hauling wood. I did get to one of my favorite little rivers though and it was a beautiful outing. I saw a little green heron and a lot of birds. When we came ashore a beautiful Baltimore Oriole landed on a branch about three feet from where my camera was sitting in it’s water proof bag, really beautiful but of course I didn’t get the shot. On the drive out we saw several more Orioles. I did get some shots of Canadian Geese and a pair of Wood Ducks. Looking forward to our next day on the water. Click on “Kayak” below to see more images. Thanks

Series of Ten

At our photo club competition the judge recommended that we create themes in a series of ten. I thought it was a neat idea and tried it. The images are not necessarily my best because I just picked some quickly and did a one click conversion to B&W in Lightroom.

The River is High

I went up to the Delaware River about a week ago but is was a 16 feet, whirlpools, muddy, and huge logs floating down. To dangerous to put the kayak in so again I was stuck photographing around the farm and near by. I really need to get the kayak in the river and do some wildlife photography.

With all the rain at least the flowers are doing well.

I went for a ride and noticed some of the horses at my brothers farm. I only had a long lens with me so I did a pano. Further on my ride I came across a little Highland steer.

We went up to Walpack Inn with friends and stopped to take a couple pictures.

Once I finally get to the River I’ll get some images on the blog.

Local Photography

After a long Winter it’s finally time to get the kayaks out and do some nature photography, as soon as the weather cooperates. My first trip will be up to the Delaware river and I’ll get some of the photographs up on the blog. ASAP. Until then I have a few images to share I made today in the yard, one of a deer I shot at a friends house and one of a duck I spotted while driving along the Delaware. The deer generally walk behind my friends house late in the evening but tonight they didn’t cooperate, maybe tomorrow night. I like the duck picture because of the rich colored reflections.

Help for Needy Animals

It’s really heartbreaking how many beautiful animals there are that have been abandoned and are in need of a loving family and home. Brent Rymon (www.tacksoft.com) and my self have been doing photography work to raise money for “The Center for Animal Health & Welfare” in Easton Pa (www.spcanorthampton.org).

The center is a no kill shelter that is currently caring for over 500 dogs and cats in need of a home. Pet Supplies Plus in Easton, just off the Freemansburg exit, hosts a photo shoot each holiday. The store covers all printing costs as well as providing space and staff to assist. Every cent we take in goes to the The Center for Animal Health & Welfare.

Brent and I did a Christmas shoot there, “Pets with Santa” and today we did a shoot “Pets with the Easter Bunny and raised over $400.00 for the shelter. I think the bad weather, rain and wind, kept a lot of people from coming. The girls that wore the really hot bunny suit were all volunteers, it was a hard job and they really did a good job. I think Marcy Lewis organizes the events, she is always there making sure everything runs smoothly. Here is a picture of Marcy, her husband and pups.

Here are a few of the pictures we took today, we even had a baby to photograph.

They only charge 5.00 per picture but every dollar helps the pets. We will be doing another shoot for Halloween and hope a lot of people show up!

Our friend Tracy Bodeo (www.tracybodeo.com), an incredible photographer who does a lot of charity work to support animals. She got me started doing this and it really feels good to help. I got Brent hooked and glad for it, it is a long day, 10:00-5:00.

In November I was the shelter helping Tracy when Bugsy came in, a beautiful Boston. We adopted him and he is a great pup!! He had a very bad knee which required surgery at the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital and is now good as new. The Vet Clinic at Red Bank is outstanding! During the same time our other Boston had a large Mast cell tumor, cancer. It was removed surgically and then she was treated with chemotherapy. She just had her last treatment and is doing great. She was adopted from a shelter in Port Jervis, NY. We have one more adopted pup, a Beagle “Takoda” whom thankfully is very healthy.

Here are a few pictures of Bugsy.

Working on it, had a blog crash.

I see Bugsy”s pictures also appear in the first group. I’m pretty new at this Blog stuff and have a lot to learn. This will have to be good enough for now. Thanks for looking and help a needy pet if you can.

I’m Really proud that two of my images were used on the cover of Skylands Visitor Magazine. In the Spring issue Tom Drake wrote a very nice story about Joanie, her sheep and our farm. You can click here to read it.I’ll finish this post later and have something to say about the photographs.

NJ Black Bear

Hi Michele and any others that happen to be viewing my bears.
This is a mom black bear I photographed outside of Belvidere NJ on my brothers farm. I had been wanting to get a picture of a bear for a long time and I received a phone call from my brother when I was in the dentist chair. I told the dentist to hurry up and I took off, really not expecting the bears to still be there but they were. A mom with two cubs. The second cub was way up in the tree and did not lend itself to a good photo but at least I saw it. Really beautiful animals but caution kept me a safe distance away standing right next to my car. These animals can run as fast as a horse and are powerful, they demand your respect.

Delaware River

North-West New Jersey is a beautiful place with an abundance of wildlife and scenery. Most of my photography is either done on my property of close by. I do a lot of kayaking, or rather spend a lot of time in a kayak just sitting and watching. The photographs featured below were taken in the Delaware river near the Water Gap or from water close to it. The only disheartening part of it is to see the junk some people leave behind, sometimes I just can’t believe what i see. It shouldn’t be to difficult to dispose of a water bottle or beer can properly. Click on images to enlarge. Thanks, bob

Lakota Wolf Preserve

A friend and I went to the Lakota Wolf Preserve this past Winter to photograph the wolves. It was a wonderful experience. All four packs started howling and now I have that recording for my phone ring tone.  The wolf is an amazing animal! If you get a chance to visit GO! Following are a few of the photographs from our visit. Here is an interesting fact: the wolf has a bite of about 1600 psi, a full grown pit bull has a bite of about 700 psi. When a wolf eats a deer it eats everything but the jaw bone.

“Once again the howling of wolves echo through the mountains of the Delaware Water Gap in Knowlton Township, Warren County, NJ.  Photo opportunities of a lifetime and the experience of watching and listening to packs of Tundra, Timber, and Arctic wolves will be yours.  View wolves here in the East in a natural surrounding for the first time in over a century.  Bobcats and foxes also reside at the reserve.” copied from the Lakota website, hope they don’t mind.
